Rouba El Hage
Rouba El Hage (formerly Palmer) recently completed her Master of Fine Arts degree in Directing at Florida State University. Upon graduating, she taught university students while directing two shows a year in the United States. She has a wealth of dramatic experience and has been directing, writing, producing and acting for the theatre since 1991. Alongside her MFA, Rouba also received her Bachelor of Arts and Diploma in Education degrees from Newcastle University and has taught High School Drama since 1997.
Rouba a Lebanese-born Australian was living in the USA until she recently moved back to the sunny Central Coast of NSW, Australia. She has also lived in France, England and Greece.
Outside her work as a Theatre educator, Rouba has written and directed numerous plays, run acting workshops for all ages, been invited to schools and camps to curate performances and adjudicated Improv and Shakespeare Competitions.
Rouba is a fully qualified and experienced TheatreSports™ and Improv coach and as well as teaching high school Drama for over 25 years, she has also taught university students in Sydney and at Florida State University and East Texas Baptist University in the United States.
Rouba wrote The Jewellery Box, a play about human trafficking in 2010, which she later directed in 2011. The production raised $10,000 for the A21 Campaign, a charity that focuses on combating human trafficking by rescuing girls caught in sex slavery and convicting their traffickers. Rouba also worked with senior undergrads at FSU on another devised piece about human trafficking called The Human Circus which premiered in the Lab Theatre at Florida State University in December 2019.
Rouba has recently graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Theatre Directing. In April 2023 she directed The Secret in the Wings for her thesis show and in December 2022, she directed Ionesco’s The Lesson at the Laboratory Theatre, Florida State University in Tallahassee.
During her time as Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at ETBU (East Texas Baptist University) in 2023 and 2024, Rouba directed the musical Jane Eyre and David Compton’s Cagebirds. The latter was chosen as an Invited Production at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).
Rouba has a wealth of experience and training in all areas of drama, and is looking forward to re-establishing Quench Theatre’s presence on the Central Coast in 2026 where she will be teaching acting, theatre and improv classes, directing shows and remounting TheatreSports™ Central Coast.
