Jane Eyre - The Musical by Paul Gordon and John Caird - Directed by Rouba El Hage (Palmer), April 2024 at the Memorial City Hall, Marshall, Texas.

This production was East Texas Baptist University’s spring musical and involved students studying their Bachelors in Theatre and Music. Based on the beloved novel by Charlotte Bronte, this musical version adds another dimension to this classic tale with the haunting voices expertly coached by Judith Shelton and the orchestra beautifully conducted by Pat Antinone.

The Secret in the Wings by Mary Zimmerman - Directed by Rouba El Hage (Palmer), April 2023 at the Conradi Theatre, Florida State University

As Rouba’s thesis show, this production completed her Master of Fine Arts in Directing studies at Florida State University. A coming of age play that deals with transformation, hardship and parent/child relationships, The Secret in the Wings takes its audience through a journey of lesser-known, darker than usual fairytales, using a variety of different theatrical conventions including song, dance, mime and transformational acting.


 

The Lesson by Eugene Ionesco - Directed by Rouba El Hage (Palmer), December 2022 at the School of Theatre, Florida State University

Presented in the Lab Theatre, The Lesson takes a surrealistic peak inside the mind of a narcissistic educator. This video showcases snippets from the plays dress rehearsal, giving you a taste of this absurdist masterpiece in action.


AMEND (A Middle Eastern Night’s Dream) - Adapted and Directed by Rouba El Hage (Palmer), December 2021 at the School of Theatre, Florida State University

As part of the Directing Shakespeare class undertaken in the 3rd year of Rouba’s MFA, she edited, adapted and directed a Shakespeare Short One Act that sets the Bard’s beloved Dream in the desert of the Middle East were religious tensions run high. Will Egeus ever permit his Muslim daughter Hermia to marry a Christian infidel?


The Human Circus - Devised and Directed by Rouba El Hage (Palmer), December 2019 at The School of Theatre, Florida State University.

At the end of Rouba’s first semester undertaking her MFA in Directing, she worked with 6 students to devise a social justice One Act about human trafficking. The play was performed in the Lab Theatre off Copeland Street in Tallahassee, Florida.


The Jewellery Box - Written and Directed by Rouba El Hage

This video displays highlights from the play The Jewellery Box - written and directed by Rouba El Hage, using high school students. The play's purpose was to raise awareness about the horrors of human trafficking and support the work of the a21 Campaign. A second edition is currently in the works.

This scene, performed by staff and students from Wyong Christian Community School, was part of a fund raiser for Destiny Rescue - an anti-human trafficking organisation.

This scene was improvised by Grade 8, 9 and 10 students from Wyong Christian Community School during the Theatresports Schools Challenge Heat held at the school.

An 80’s Midsummer Night’s Dream

Directed by Rouba El Hage at the Avoca Beach Picture Theatre in 2008, this take of one of the Bard’s greatest comedies is infused with all the fun, colour and madness of the 1980’s. Fluoro fairies flood the stage with mischief and slogan shirts and graffiti bring out the inherent cheesiness within the play.
